Michael Chopra takes to Twitter to hammer Newcastle owner Mike Ashley

Michael Chopra has taken to Twitter to blast Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley over his handling of the club, and accuse the Toon supremo of taking advantage of the supporters’ loyalty.

Ashley continues to be hated by Newcastle fans for his control of the club, with the main sticking point being a lack of investment from his pocket to renovate the facilities and inject funds in to the transfer budget.

Most recently, the failure to keep Rafa Benitez has pushed Toon fans over the edge – and large sections of the support are unhappy with his replacement in Steve Bruce. However, Newcastle did spend £40million on Joelinton.

It sees The Toon break their transfer record for a second time in the last two windows, though the squad still needs major investment between now and the start of the season. Former Toon striker Chopra took to Twitter.

TBR’s view – Chopra sums Newcastle situation up

Ashley made promises coming into the role but since taking over, The Toon have played in Europe on one occasion – and instead have been relegated twice under his stewardship.

The Sports Direct mogul is seemingly willing to sell the club, but his valuation of £350million or even more for the Premier League side is putting off investors. Peter Kenyon and Amanda Staveley both headed consortiums, but were unwilling to go that high.

It looks as though Ashley will remain, but Chopra is right. He has exploited the fanbase from the start.
