Micah Richards wonders if Arsenal should bring Mesut Ozil in from the cold

Arsenal’s poor start to the Premier League season continued this weekend as they lost 2-0 in the North London derby.

The Gunners once again struggled to create meaningful chances and were made to pay as Tottenham ran out winners. Whilst their neighbours sit top of the Premier League, Arsenal are down in 15th and struggling to make an impact.

Their struggle for creativity in attack has led many fans to call for a return to the first-team for Mesut Ozil.

The German has been completely cast aside by Mikel Arteta, as his work-rate is not considered up to scratch for Arsenal’s style of play.

But BBC and Sky Sports pundit Micah Richards believes Ozil might deserve another chance at The Emirates.

“I feel for Ozil a little bit,” Richards “I feel for the fact that he really thought he was going to get a real chance in this team and then he didn’t. Now, he’s sat at home, watching his team not create any chances.

“Now it is like ‘we’re not creating chances and we’ve got one of the best creators sat at home. Surely they’ve got to sort out their differences…

“What would you rather do? Put him in and try to create or just lose anyway?”

Of course, plenty of Arsenal fans will agree with this point whilst others will point out the obvious negatives.

Ozil has not played regularly for some time and his lack of defensive contribution can sometimes make him a liability when the going gets rough.

But as Richards points out, it cannot get much worse for Arsenal, so perhaps giving Ozil a second chance might not be the worst idea possible for Arsenal’s current problems.
