Micah Richards stunned by Arsenal striker target Armando Broja

Micah Richards that he cannot quite understand how Armando Broja was able to bully both Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane at the weekend – in comments that may alert some of those at Arsenal.

Broja is attracting attention from the Gunners. Reports claimed on Monday that he is open to moving to the Emirates at the end of his loan spell this summer.

That loan has been an overwhelming success so far. He has scored eight goals in all competitions for Southampton, including six in the top-flight. Broja’s performance is remarkable when you consider that he had made one Premier League appearance before this season.

His latest display saw him help Southampton secure a point at Old Trafford against Manchester United. Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men were outstanding across the pitch. But it was Broja’s display up against the United centre-backs that caught Richards’ eye.

“Broja, I know we’ve mentioned him before, but he’s bullying not only Maguire but he’s bullying Varane as well, which I couldn’t quite understand for someone so young,” .

Broja ability to unsettle defences could make him an inspired signing for Arsenal

Broja is perhaps not the most exciting name Arsenal want. They have also been linked with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Alexander Isak.

But that may be why a move for Broja could prove to be a real masterstroke. He is still unproven. And with that, Chelsea may not be against the idea of cashing in while there is so much interest.

He would not command the same sort of fee as Calvert-Lewin or Isak.

Broja has shown that he can cause all sorts of problems for defenders. And he should only get better in the years to come.

He fits the kind of profile Arsenal have been looking at in the market in the last year. He works hard for the team, and is absolutely desperate to get on the scoresheet.

Sometimes he could make better decisions. But that is to be expected of a striker who only turned 20 back in September.

As Richards suggests, Arsenal will take great encouragement from how impressive Broja is already proving to be in the Premier League.
