Micah Richards explains what he loved Jesse Lingard on his West Ham debut

Micah Richards has explained that that he loved Jesse Lingard’s “desire” on Wednesday night.

The 28-year-old made his debut for the Hammers just days after joining on loan until the end of the season from Manchester United.

He played 90 minutes for David Moyes’ side last night in a 3-1 victory away to Aston Villa.

Lingard certainly stole the show with his two goals, as he thrived in the advanced midfield position just in the pocket of space behind striker Michal Antonio.

The playmaker netted a brilliant half-volley on his weaker left foot, as well as driving in a powerful finish with his right.

Pundit Richards singled him out in his post-match analysis and was so impressed with him.

“This is the bit I love about him, his awareness and his desire to get into the box,”

“He goes into the place where he sees space and it’s a great finish on his weaker foot [for his first goal].”

TBR’s View:

Lingard will have known he was under the spotlight during his West Ham debut, as he’s had so many doubters and critics since falling out of favour at Old Trafford.

He proved a point with his individual display against Villa and more importantly it looked like he gelled instantly with some of his new teammates.

A move to West Ham could reignite him to his very best and it’s easy to forget he was a regular starter for England during the 2018 World Cup.

A switch to the London Stadium mid-season looks ideal for all parties involved.
