Mesut Ozil recommends Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac joins Galatasaray
According to , Mesut Ozil has recommended his former Arsenal teammate Sead Kolasinac seals a summer transfer to Galatasaray.
Kolasinac is due to return to the Emirates this summer after spending the second half of the season with Schalke. But he does not consider his future to be in north London and cannot see himself playing for the Gunners again.
Schalke are interested in retaining Kolasinac beyond his temporary spell in the Bundesliga (). Yet the Bosnian has one year remaining on his lucrative Arsenal contract which presents a hurdle for the German outfit.
Galatasaray have also presented Kolasinac with an offer to leave Mikel Arteta’s side. He is one of three left-backs currently under consideration alongside Leeds United’s Ezgjan Alioski and Crystal Palace’s Patrick van Aanholt.
The Super Lig runners-up would hope to add Kolasinac to Fatih Terim’s side in a discounted deal due to his contract situation. Contact between the Istanbul outfit and the 27-year-old has already begun with potential personal terms presented.
Kolasinac appears willing to listen to Galatasaray’s advances, having discussed moving to Turkey with former Arsenal teammate Ozil. The pair are close friends but could become rivals after the German’s free transfer to Fenerbahce in January ().
Ozil is understood to have recommended Galatasaray as a suitable destination for Kolasinac nonetheless. He sees the move as a fresh start for the full-back who Arsenal are . The Gunners signed the Bosnian as a following his release by Schalke in 2017.
Kolasinac made just in the Premier League this season before returning to Germany in January. He started Bundesliga outings and captained the side on each occasion as Schalke were relegated.
TBR’s view: Arsenal need to sell Kolasinac
While Galatasaray have already approached Kolasinac, the Super Lig giants have not made Arsenal an offer. Any bid will likely be low, but Arsenal should be receptive to cashing in.
Arteta clearly only rates Kolasinac highly enough to warrant him returning to the Emirates as a backup option. The full-back also has no apparent interest in returning to north London with offers to leave on the table.
And as this summer could be the Gunners’ penultimate chance to gain a fee for Kolasinac, his future needs clarifying. Arsenal will be loath to continue paying to someone who has no realistic expectations of playing a prominent role.
