‘Menacing’: Neil Redfearn suggests Leeds United made a Jack Clarke error
Leeds United lost top spot in the Championship at the weekend. Norwich City’s 3-1 win at Elland Road left the Whites in second. It was a performance that Leeds will want to forget quickly, especially with a tough match against Middlesbrough upcoming.
, former Leeds United manager Neil Redfearn spoke about the impact one player made from the bench.
“I thought that Jack Clarke made a big difference when he came on second-half. I Think if Clarke could have been on first-half, with the ball that (Jack) Harrison got, I think Leeds would have got themselves in front.
“He’s got that game-craft to open people up, get to the byline and pick people out. When he came on they started to look menacing on the right-hand side.”
TBR’s View:
Undoubtedly, Clarke has been something of a revelation for Leeds United this season. The talented winger has been in sensational form and his heroics against Aston Villa in December have probably written him into Leeds folklore.
However, his best displays have seemed to come from the bench. Starting a player of his age is an immense amount of pressure and Clarke still seems to be best as a reactive player.

The problem here, really lies with Jack Harrison, who has simply not performed at the level Leeds would have expected. If Leeds managed to get their hands on Swansea City’s Daniel James in January it likely the Manchester City loanee would be starting right now.
The question Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa needs to ask now is whether he continues to use Clarke as a bench player or risk him from the start.
On Harrison’s current form, it would probably be a good idea to bring the teenager in.
