Memphis Depay delivers six-word Instagram verdict on Tottenham star’s display

Steven Bergwijn scored his second goal for the Netherlands on Tuesday night – and Memphis Depay has praised the Tottenham star on Instagram.

Bergwijn, 24, has returned to the Netherlands fold recently under Louis van Gaal after a tricky bout of Tottenham form had seen Bergwijn overlooked.

But he has featured in four of the last six internationals for his country, missing the other two due to an injury. He won his 16th cap on Tuesday.

In what was a frustrating night for van Gaal’s men, they needed a win to see off the challenge of Turkey – and finish first to qualify for the World Cup.

They did just that, but only when Bergwijn blasted the ball into the net first time – on 84 minutes. A wonderful finish, and he posted on Instagram.

Bergwijn scored: Depay sends six-word message to Tottenham star

A brilliant goal from Bergwijn, his first since netting in the 2-1 loss to Aston Villa last season. It is just his second goal in 2021, for club and country.

Barcelona ace Depay is in much better form, netting his 10th goal in just six games for the Netherlands in injury time to secure a 2-0 win.

Tottenham fans will be hoping that Bergwijn’s goal injects a shot of confidence into him, as Spurs embark on a new era under Antonio Conte.

Whether Bergwijn is a part of that or not, remains to be seen. His goal will have given Conte food for thought. Indeed, Barca star Depay was impressed.

The ex-Manchester United and Lyon man responded to Bergwijn’s post on Instagram, sending the Spurs star a six-word message.
