‘Silky smooth’: Media blown away by ‘wonderful’ Leeds teenager against Southampton u-21s last night

Leeds United’s under-21s hammered Southampton last night 6-2 as an experienced Whites side had too much for the Saints.

The likes of Liam Cooper, Patrick Bamford – who helped himself to three goals – and Crysencio Summerville all featured for Leeds in a rampant win on Friday evening. Junior Firpo also played as he continued his way back to the first-team and Jesse Marsch will have been delighted with what he saw overall.

Of course, in such a big performance there were always going to be some standout performers and one of those on the night was young midfielder, Darko Gyabi. Signed in the summer from Manchester City, Gyabi has been lauded as being a ‘wonderful‘ talent thanks to his performances.

And last night seemed to enhance his reputation further, as Leeds Live gave him a nice 8/10 rating and a complimentary, if not small, write up.

“Silky smooth in the middle of the park. Continues to impress and got Leeds moving forward well,” wrote of Gyabi.

For onlooking Leeds fans, seeing the 18-year-old Gyabi impress will be just what they want. After losing Kalvin Phillips in the summer, the midfield has openings and Gyabi can very much be the future if he carries on as is.

TBR’s View: Leeds Hit Jackpot With Gyabi

There is no doubting that Leeds have got themselves a little gem in Darko Gyabi. He seems to be impressing every time he plays and the Whites fans can be excited about the future.

Gyabi looks like being a quality player and has already shown touches of class at 21s level. A first-team call will surely beckon soon enough and Jesse Marsch will know he has a player on his hands here.

His performance last night was superb, and Leeds’ youngsters really delivered.
