‘Yesterday’s news’: McCoist takes cheeky dig at Gerrard after expressing doubts at Villa’s recent signing

Ally McCoist has jokingly labelled Steven Gerrard “yesterday’s news”.

The renowned funny man made his cheeky dig at the former Ibrox boss on .

Speaking with Alan Brazil and Gabby Agbonlahor, the trio discussed the recent of Philippe Coutinho.

McCoist was unconvinced by the signing, despite Gerrard already having a relationship with the player, being former Liverpool teammates.

McCoist said: “I have a question mark over Coutinho.

“I think he is an excellent player, sorry, I think he was an excellent player, I still think there is talent there, I just hope, from Villa’s point of view, that Steven can get the best out of them.”

Brazil, a former Celtic youth player who often has Old Firm banter with McCoist mocked the opinion.

He suggested McCoist was only critical of Gerrard’s signings because of his departure from Rangers.

McCoist jokingly responded, as far as he was concerned “The man is fish and chip paper, he’s yesterday’s news, we’ve moved on, we’re part of Gio’s army.”

McCoist’s opinion on Gerrard to Villa

McCoist had previously claimed Villa and Gerrard were both taking a gamble, as he was “untried and tested in the Premier League.”

A 3-1 defeat to Chelsea has been accompanied by three narrow defeats to Man Utd, Liverpool, and Man City.
