Mauricio Pochettino should seriously consider not picking these three players again
Tottenham Hotspur’s hard-fought defeat to Liverpool yesterday was perhaps the clearest indicator that the players, and not Mauricio Pochettino, are at fault for the current slide in form.
Why?
Just look at the three players who were most at fault for the defeat yesterday – Danny Rose, Serge Aurier and Christian Eriksen.
Danny Rose was poor again at left-back. A player once trusted by the Argentine boss made a simple error which allowed Jordan Henderson to score the equaliser. In fairness to Rose, he is clearly trying. For whatever reason, his form has deserted him.
Then there is Serge Aurier. Caught completely out of position he then did another bad impression of a professional footballer by giving away a stupid penalty which led to Liverpool’s winner.
Eriksen, perhaps, was the worst of the lot. Asked to play out wide and do a job defensively he simply downed tools and didn’t do his job. Andrew Robertson glided past him at will.
When in areas to do what he is known for, delivering quality into the box and finding the right pass, the Danish international seemed sluggish and dispassionate. It was a poor display which reeked of a player who no longer wants to be at the club.
Which is true. Eriksen, like Rose and Aurier, were expected to leave Tottenham this summer. Rose was left out of the club’s pre-season tour, Aurier he wanted to leave. Eriksen toldhe wanted to ‘try something new’. All three wanted to leave or were told they could and they are playing like it.
At this rate, Pochettino would be best off not considering the trio for selection considering the level of performance they are putting in.
