Mauricio Pochettino in contention to make return to Tottenham with Daniel Levy giving Ange Postecoglou message behind the scenes
Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is very much in contention to return to the club to replace Ange Postecoglou, TBR Football can exclusively reveal.
Current Tottenham boss Postecoglou is not expecting to be in charge next season and the club are making progress with potential candidates to replace him in N17.
Winning the Europa League will not be enough to save Postecoglou’s job owing to Spurs’ horrendous league form, which could very well see them set a new record for their most league defeats in a season.

Tottenham’s 2-1 loss to Nottingham Forest on Monday evening was their 18th of the season and relegation threatened Ipswich Town have only suffered two more.
It’s a perilous situation and one that Postecoglou will not have anticipated when his side were in title-contention at the beginning of his first season in north London.
Daniel Levy’s message to Ange Postecoglou
That being said, sources with knowledge of the situation have confirmed to TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey that Daniel Levy has so far stopped short of telling Postecoglou that he’s leaving.
Instead, Levy has made it known that Tottenham are exploring other options.

Work has already been done on leading targets Andoni Iraola and Marco Silva — both of whom have stalled on signing new deals with their clubs.
Although, Bournemouth and Fulham, respectively, do retain hope that they will put pen to paper.
In addition, TBR previously shared that Tottenham have shown interest in Thomas Frank at Brentford, as well as Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner and Ipswich’s Kieran McKenna.
Outside of the Premier League, Spurs have also been impressed by the work of Scott Parker at Burnley and Liam Rosenior at Strasbourg.
Former Brighton & Hove Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi is another name that some at Tottenham appreciate.
Mauricio Pochettino could be perfect for Tottenham’s young squad
However, it’s understood that Mauricio Pochettino could very well be Levy’s first choice to replace Postecoglou.
Pochettino and Levy have remained close despite the Argentinian being axed in 2019.
Since then, the former Spurs boss has spent time with Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea before taking charge of the United States late last year.
However, Pochettino has not settled well with the USMNT and TBR understands that the 53-year-old would love to return ‘home’ to Tottenham — something Levy is aware of.

Pochettino is only a year out from the World Cup in America but he is under intense pressure after a series of poor results and only this week former US Coach Bruce Arena questioned his role.
It’s now understood that whilst Levy and his team do work on Postecoglou replacements, Pochettino is very much in his thinking.
Levy believes that the Argentine could be ideal to work with the current Spurs squad which has some world-class young talent.
