Matteo Guendouzi comments on Arsenal future and Mikel Arteta
Matteo Guendouzi has told France Football – – that he is keen to return to Arsenal but that this summer will prove to be a “decisive moment” as he remains on loan with German Bundesliga outfit Hertha Berlin.
Guendouzi, 21, left Arsenal last summer on a season-long loan to Hertha, where he has since played 19 matches for the German outfit. He has played 19 of the 22 Bundesliga matches in which he has been available for, following his Arsenal exit.
He left the Gunners on loan after a fall out with Mikel Arteta. It is claimed the Spaniard grew tired of Guendouzi’s attitude behind the scenes, while his performances on the pitch hardly made up for that. His loan expires in the summer at Hertha.
Guendouzi has spoken about his future and while he described the upcoming summer window as “decisive”, he also admitted he is keen to return to Arsenal and give his all for the Gunners. Whether Arteta feels the same, remains to be seen.

“No, not at all,” , when asked about his Arsenal future. “We will have a sit down with my entourage and people at the club to think and discuss the future. I am still an Arsenal player. This summer will be a decisive moment.
“Yes, of course [I can work under Arteta]. I belong to Arsenal for another year (until June 2022). When I am playing for Arsenal, I will give everything for this club, for the fans, for the team, for the staff. I will work hard for the shirt as I have always done.”
TBR’s view – Guendouzi would be unwise to return to Arsenal
Regardless of what has happened before, regardless of his form in Germany and the 82 outings for the Gunners in the past, regardless of his relationship with Arteta – Guendouzi would be unwise to return to The Emirates.
The reason for that, is because Arsenal are already well-stocked in the middle of the park. Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka, Dani Ceballos and Mo Elneny are currently options, while Joe Willock is impressing while on loan at Newcastle United.
It is questionable as to whether Guendouzi is better than any of those five options – and for the good of his career and development, it is probably advisable for all parties involved to sanction the permanent sale of the French midfielder.
