Matt O’Riley says Brendan Rodgers has now done something he’s never seen from him at Celtic before

Celtic midfielder, Matt O’Riley, has shared the message that Brendan Rodgers delivered to the dressing room after the win against St Johnstone on Sunday.

The Celtic manager was vocal in telling the press post-match that he has never been as angry in his whole managerial career as he was at half-time at McDiarmid Park.

And Matt O’Riley has revealed that he has never seen that side of Rodgers before. The Celtic midfielder was asked what he thought of Rodgers’ reaction and whilst he admits that it shocked him, O’Riley also shared the message Rodgers gave to the team after the 3-1 win.

O’Riley said [], “Have I seen it before from the manager? Not to that extent. But I don’t think our intensity has been that low before, so it was warranted.

“That was his message after the game – ‘I hope I don’t have to get to that level of anger at half-time again’.

“I think the reaction showed the level we can play at and should be at regularly. Hopefully, it’s a wake-up call going forward.

“I think we are in a good place. He’s quite a calm guy in general. He doesn’t like to get angry unless he has to.

“He’s been around long enough to know when to go a bit harder or when to soften up. It was the right call.”

It’s great to hear this sort of insight from the players about Rodgers because O’Riley is correct, very rarely does the Celtic manager get too emotional regardless of whether his team wins or loses.

The fact that Rodgers saw fit to go through his team will give the fans confidence that although there has been a clear drop in form, the Hoops manager will not accept it.

On to Hibs tonight and the Celtic support will be hoping to see more of that final 25 minutes in Perth against the capital side to keep their lead intact at the top of the table.
