Portsmouth centre-back Matt Clarke is reportedly a target for Leeds United this summer after a wonderful campaign with the League One promotion contenders – and he would be a bargain buy.

Clarke played the entire 120 minutes as he helped Portsmouth win the Football League Trophy on Sunday at Wembley, providing an assist for Pompey’s extra-time goal.
The match finished 2-2 against Sunderland, and although Clarke did not take a penalty, he was crucial in helping Kenny Jackett’s side finally overcome a stubborn Jack Ross outfit.
A bargain for Leeds?
Leeds desperately need a centre-back. Liam Cooper and Pontus Jansson have both excelled at centre-back for the Whites this season, but they have little cover.
Gaetano Berardi, Luke Ayling, Kalvin Phillips and Aapo Halme have all deputised when the aforementioned duo are unavailable. But Berardi, Ayling and Phillips are naturally suited elsewhere, while Halme remains a rookie.
Comfortable on the ball, strong in the tackle and excellent in the air, Clarke has been superb for Portsmouth – albeit in the third tier. He has made 51 appearances, helping Pompey keep 18 clean sheets.
With only just over a year left on his contract, Pompey may be keen to cash in on Clarke. At 22, he has plenty of time left ahead of him and acting as cover to Cooper and Jansson, Clarke would be a bargain at £4million.
