Matip and Lovren have it all to prove as Klopp eyes cover at centre-half
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wants to sign a new central defender in the summer.
, the German coach wants to get cover in for Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.
The Reds have been very solid this season at the back, having conceded just 15 goals in 25 league matches.

Dutchman van Dijk and England star Gomez had struck up a particularly impressive partnership in the early stages of the campaign.
Gomez sustained a fractured leg against Burnley in November though, and has been out ever since.
That has proven to be the big blow many anticipated it would be, with the Reds having conceded just five times in the league before he went off injured at Turf Moor.
Matip and Lovren have it all to prove
If Klopp really does want more defensive cover for Gomez and van Dijk, then it could be crunch time for Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip.
Croatian World Cup finalist Lovren has struggled this term with injury, but has done little to convince when he has covered.

And it’s a similar story with Matip – the German is the current partner to van Dijk, but doesn’t look anywhere near as assured as Gomez. The lanky ex-Schalke defender has looked very lethargic alongide his more mobile teammate.
With a league title at stake, both players have a brilliant chance to prove themselves between now and May.
If Manchester City or Tottenham Hotspur end up winning the league and the pair play poorly, then they should both be fearing for their Anfield futures.
