Mathieu Flamini sends Instagram message to Mesut Ozil after confirmed Arsenal exit

Mesut Ozil has finally been confirmed as a Fenerbahce player and has left Arsenal after numerous hints on social media that a deal was close to completion – and Mathieu Flamini has sent a touching message on Instagram.

Ozil, 32, has left the club after more than seven years in North London – in which he clocked up 254 appearances, scoring 44 goals and creating 77 more. He helped Arsenal win four FA Cups and two Community Shields.

The 92-time Germany international’s eventual exit was somewhat sour given his enormous wages and that the club had left him out of the 25-man squad. He has been criticised for staying, collecting his enormous pay packet.

But Arsenal and Ozil finally came to an agreement to cancel his contract with the Gunners – six months ahead of schedule. It has allowed Fener to sign him on a free – and has posted on Instagram after finally confirming a move.

Ozil and former Gunners midfielder Flamini are renowned for their somewhat unlikely friendship off the pitch, having played together numerous times under Arsene Wenger. Flamini has responded to his post.

Indeed, the Frenchman responded to Ozil’s exit and his touching message to Arsenal fans with a 10-word verdict of his own – telling Ozil that he was “class” on the pitch and behind the scenes.
