Mat Ryan has a new nickname for Arsenal star Rob Holding, after successive clean sheets

Rob Holding has helped Arsenal keep two successive clean sheets for the North London club after Mikel Arteta’s side booked their place in the Europa League quarter-finals on Thursday – and Mat Ryan has given him a new nickname on Instagram.

Holding, 25, has come into the side after David Luiz suffered an injury and the Englishman has since started Arsenal’s last four games. In the previous two, the Gunners have kept clean sheets against Sheffield United, and then Slavia Prague on Thursday.

Arsenal kept up their pursuit of a top-six finish on Sunday with a comfortable 3-0 win away from home over Sheffield United – with Alexandre Lacazette scoring a brace. The Frenchman did it again on Thursday night, as Arsenal eased to a 4-0 win.

Nicolas Pepe scored too, just as he did in the first leg against Slavia Prague – while Bukayo Saka also got his name on the score sheet. It was an excellent win, one which Arteta labelled the best display of the season. Holding posted on Instagram.

Holding’s form has been somewhat underrated this season. The £25k-a-week () ace has clocked up 31 outings this season – keeping an impressive 13 clean sheets. In Arsenal’s entire 49 games, they have only managed two more clean sheets.

That is a big stat in Holding’s favour. Another, is that Arsenal have only conceded 29 goals in 31 games – while Arsenal have let in 23 goals in the 18 games in which he has not featured. Ryan alluded to his record, commenting: “Clean sheet king”.
