He had especially high praise for Perisic and Yves Bissouma.

Of the Croatian, Merson wrote: “I’m a massive fan of Ivan Perisic.

“He’s a top-draw player, and he works his socks off.

“Antonio Conte knows him well, and the fans will love him because he’s a hard-working player.”

Perisic was Tottenham’s first signing of the summer.

He had been on Inter Milan’s books since 2015, but took a loan spell at Bayern Munich in 2019-20.

Perisic won the Bundesliga, German Cup and Champions League treble with the Allianz Arena club.

At Inter, Perisic won the 2020-21 Serie A title under Conte, with whom he has reunited at Spurs.

The 33-year-old also won the Bundesliga title and the German Cup at Borussia Dortmund in 2012.

At international level, Perisic has won 113 caps for Croatia.

He helped his nation reach the 2018 World Cup final.

Perisic also won the man-of-the-match award in the semi-final win over England.

Tottenham have done superbly in the summer window so far.

As well as Perisic and Bissouma, Spurs have signed Richarlison, Fraser Forster and Clement Lenglet.
