‘Massive blow’: Some Arsenal fans react as ‘overplayed’ Gunners man ruled out of Liverpool clash
A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to bemoan David Luiz’s absence ahead of Saturday night’s Premier League meeting with Liverpool.
The Gunners confirmed on Friday that the defender is being assessed for discomfort in his right knee and will not be available for the Emirates Stadium encounter.
Luiz started each of Arsenal’s last four league games prior to the international break, as well as both legs of each of the Gunners’ Europa League knockout ties.

The severity of the problem remains to be seen, although reporter James Benge says the Brazilian has been training this week while also undergoing a number of tests and seeing a specialist.
In Luiz’s absence, the likes of Rob Holding, Calum Chambers and Pablo Mari will vie for a place at the heart of Arsenal’s defence alongside Gabriel Magalhaes.
Given the 33-year-old’s good form this year, some Gunners fans are worried about how their team will fare in his absence against Liverpool’s strong front line.
Here is what’s been said on social media:
it’s really not.

Massive blow. Not only in terms of our defending as a unit, but going forward as well. Luiz’s passing and runs into midfield have been so important in us creating effective attacks.

If Luiz is out long term we don’t win the Europa League btw

Damn, Luiz is a bigger miss than most realize.

If this was a different player, a younger, universally liked player for example, a lot more criticism would be heading Mikel Arteta’s way.
No doubt in my mind that David Luiz was overplayed prior to the international break.

David Luiz being injured today is a huge worry with the way Liverpool press .. i’ll very worried if Rob Holding starts .. i’d prefer Mari & Gabriel bit both being left footed it won’t happen . i hope luiz is fit

Late calls will be made over the fitness of both Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe, while Granit Xhaka will also be assessed after he was sick on Friday.
