Massimo Cellino flop returns to Britain, Leeds fans react on Twitter

Massimo Cellino’s spell as Leeds United owner was a mixture of controversy, red tape and a whole host of unknown, flop signings. Casper Sloth was one of those.

The Danish midfielder joined Leeds alongside the likes of Dario Del Fabro, Edgar Cani, Tommaso Bianchi and Zan Benedecic, for a £600,000 () fee from Aarhus in the summer of 2014.

There was plenty of hype surrounding Sloth, given that he had earned nine caps for Denmark. But he managed just 14 times for Leeds before eventually leaving in 2016, moving back to Denmark with Aalborg.

Only 24 appearances in two years with Aalborg has seen his stock fall even further, but the 27-year-old now has the chance to save his career – and will attempt to do so in Scotland.

That is because Scottish Premiership side Motherwell have opted to take the plunge and look to bring the best out of Sloth, landing him on a free transfer from Aalborg.

No doubt, there is certainly ability under the bonnet. But what Sloth needs is regular game time, and the backing of a loyal fanbase that will support him – even through patches of sticky form.

The technical side to his game, as well as the vision and an eye for goal will follow. Leeds fans reacted to the news that Sloth is back on these shores, with many hoping he has improved for Motherwell’s sake.
