Martin Skrtel’s advice will not help Liverpool sign Milan Skriniar in January
Liverpool’s defensive shortage just became more acute with Joe Gomez, who has a history of knee injuries, suffering a serious injury during England training that has fans at Anfield fearing the worst.
With Virgil van Dijk also out for the season with a serious knee injury of his own, the Reds are now being linked with plenty of defensive options.
One such player is Inter Milan’s Slovakian defender Milan Skriniar.
, Liverpool are set to join Tottenham in the January hunt for the centre-back, who is not considered indispensable by current Inter boss Antonio Conte and would be available at a price in the region of €60 million (£54m).
Skriniar actually counts a former Liverpool defender as his footballing idol, fellow Slovakian Martin Skrtel.

However, Liverpool might not want their transfer target going to Skrtel for advice.
Because in the summer the former Reds defender made his opinion clear that Skriniar should fight for his place at the San Siro.
“There are moments in life of every player where things go really well, but there are also moments where things don’t go as planned. When this happens it is important for a player to react. Skriniar is going through something similar to this at Inter,” Skrtel
“In recent games he has lost his role as a starter and there is more and more talk about the fact that he could leave the club. (But) he is still young and he should remain strong and fight for his recovery.
“Although there is the interest of English and Spanish clubs, the best solution for him would be to stay at Inter, where he has built a great name for himself.”
Of course, that advice might change if Skriniar is given the chance to go to Skrtel’s former club, where the Basaksehir defender might suggest Skriniar heads to improve his career.
Hopefully, because it would seem off if Skriniar does not reach out to this former Liverpool player should a move to Anfield materialise in the winter.
