Martin Keown thinks Mikel Arteta will look to sell Arsenal player this summer

Martin Keown has told TalkSPORT (Tuesday, 11:40am) that he believes Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will look to sell midfielder Matteo Guendouzi this summer – also claiming that the Frenchman is “not good enough”.

Guendouzi, 21, has come under fire of late. Images of the Unai Emery signing throttling Brighton striker Neal Maupay were then followed by reports that he has behaved childishly behind the scenes at Arsenal.

Real Madrid, Barcelona and Leicester City are all interested – while other reports suggest plenty of other European heavyweights are keen on the former Lorient midfielder, who cost just £8million ().

Some reports even claim Guendouzi has been forced to train by himself, and Arsenal legend Keown thinks Arteta will sell him if the Gunners needs to bring in some cash this summer. He also claimed Guendouzi is “not good enough”.

“I’m not sure he’s really good enough,” Keown said. “His personality is his biggest asset. If you have misdemeanors but you play well, you can get back in.

“Xhaka has recovered, Ceballos is controlling matches, Torreira is back from injury. Arteta may take the opportunity to offload him in the summer, especially if they need to sell to buy.”

TBR’s view – Is Keown right?

Guendouzi, at the peak of his short Arsenal career, was regarded as one of the best young players in the Premier League. He was even named as one of the 30-man Golden Boy list, but his spell has since dipped at The Emirates.

With Arsenal growing increasingly likely to complete a move for Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey, and Ceballos impressing Arteta, Guendouzi is becoming less and less important to Arsenal. Keown is right, Arteta could sell.
