Martin Keown shares what Bayern Munich could now fear in facing Aston Villa

Aston Villa face Bayern Munich tonight in what could be the biggest game Villa Park has hosted in some years.

After 41 years away from the UEFA Champions League, Unai Emery’s side bring premium European football back to Birmingham with Villa taking on one of the biggest clubs in the entire competition in Bayern.

With Ollie Watkins confident in Emery giving Villa the quality needed to edge out world-class opponents like the Germany giants, the Villians will be tested this evening against Vincent Kompany’s side, who will want to build from their 9-2 win last time out against Dinamo Zagreb.

And Martin Keown believes Villa have something that could fear Bayern.

Villa Park atmosphere could give Villa an advantage over Bayern

Speaking to , the pundit noted how Villa Park and the atmosphere generated by the fans tonight could give Villa a massive advantage over Bayern, even with the Bundesliga side the clear favourites.

Villa Park is regarded as one of the hardest grounds in English football to visit, especially under Emery, and Keown believes Bayern could be in for a surprise given how big tonight is for Villa fans.

Keown said: “Villa Park is one of those grounds which creates a fantastic atmosphere. Those European nights are a bit tasty. It was the semi-final ground of the FA Cup, there’s something about it.

“It has to be rocking and there’s still enough fans to remember those great European nights of the past. And a new generation [of fans] are seeing Villa now as a very attractive team to watch.”

Villa need to use everything they can to get a boost over Bayern

Villa got off to a perfect start in their Champions League campaign with a 3-0 win against Young Boys, with the Villian’s biggest test now upon them in Kompany’s Bayern side, who will be one of the favourites for competition this season.

And with such a big game coming up, Villa need to ensure they’re doing all they can to get as much of an advantage over Bayern later today, with this evening’s game arguably the biggest the Premier League side have experienced this century.

Indeed, Villa know they can beat anyone on their day, and the fans will want to create a hostile environment that could help out their side massively against Bayern, who are there for the taking.
