Martin Keown praises ‘resurgence’ from Arsenal defender Rob Holding

Martin Keown has picked out Arsenal defender Rob Holding for huge praise for the level of his displays this season.

Holding, 25, has been an ever-present in the Gunners XI this season and has already played 24 games across all competitions.

The centre-back has had numerous injury problems during his career with the North London club, but recently chalked up his 100th appearance for them.

He’s certainly in favour with current Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and his consistency has perhaps been overlooked by neutrals this season due to the fact that team have struggled.

Pundit and ex-Arsenal centre-back Keown has explained that there has been a resurgence in the form of Holding.

“There has been a resurgence in Rob Holding’s performances. He’s become a key member of a defence which, before the Wolves loss, had conceded only one goal in six games,”

“Arteta has moved away from using a back five to a back four, which is allowing them to operate in the opposition half more.”

TBR’s View:

Holding is an old-school defender that puts his body on the line regularly at the back and is a commanding physical figure in the air, as well as being one of the few real leaders.

The English centre-half seems to be the one constant in the heart of defence, whether that be alongside teammates David Luiz or Gabriel Magalhaes.

If he can stay injury free for the rest of the year, then he’s on course to have one of his best seasons in an Arsenal shirt and aged 25 he needs to start knuckling down to try fulfil his full potential.
