‘Marsch will push’: Fabrizio Romano shares update which could be good news for Leeds
Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Leeds United will be “fighting” to keep Cody Drameh at Elland Road over the coming weeks.
The Whites full-back has emerged as a transfer target for a number of Premier League clubs, plus Borussia Dortmund.
Drameh stayed put at Leeds this summer in pursuit of a first-team place. This was after spending the second half of last season on loan at Cardiff.
However, the 21-year-old hasn’t managed to failed to oust Rasmus Kristensen or Luke Ayling in the pecking order.
This has led to speculation linking Drameh with a January exit. There have been links with the likes of Newcastle, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and Dortmund.
However, Romano has taken to Twitter to claim that Leeds boss Jesse Marsch will try to convince Drameh to stay put.
‘He’s done really well’
On Friday, Marsch himself suggested that he wouldn’t be sanctioning a January departure for Drameh.
“You bring up Cody,” he told .
“Cody has been fantastic over the last month and I’m so happy we have gotten to a point with him where he feels so energised by what we’re doing and engaged.
“Then the decision will be how to continue to push him in the direction for him to be an important player at this club, which he will be. Maybe we need to even think about how it fits now.
“He’s done really well and I’m really happy for him and then you try to go through every player.
“What’s the situation of the team? What’s his personal situation? How do we provide him with what he needs to push him along as quickly as possible?”
Drameh’s contract expires in the summer of 2024. This puts Leeds in a bit of a difficult situation.
A combination of this, a lack of game time and reported interest from big clubs means Leeds need to work hard to convince him to stay.
However, Ayling’s contract only runs until the end of the season. This means Marsch could try to convince Drameh to stay and challenge Kristensen next season and beyond.
