Marsch likely to put ‘outstanding’ player in Leeds squad for the first time this season v Villa – journalist

Junior Firpo could be set to make his first Leeds United appearance of the season against Aston Villa this weekend.

Firpo got injured in pre-season and has not even made a matchday squad yet this term.

But he played for the Under 21 side in a 6-2 win over Southampton during the international break and is now set for a return.

report that Firpo should be fit enough for a place on the bench against Steven Gerrard’s men as he closes in on a return.

Firpo could play for Leeds v Villa

We have had no news on injuries since the Brentford game other than confirmation of Rasmus Kristensen’s recovery and the valuable minutes for some in the under-21s,” said reporter Beren Cross.

“Bamford was one of those who featured in Premier League 2 game and although I didn’t watch, reports suggest he did well. Our assumption is he is fit and ready to go against Villa.

“Firpo, like Bamford, played with the under-21s and should be on the bench at the very least this weekend. I would imagine Struijk still has the edge as a starter over the Dominican.”

Leeds have not had a specialist left-back in Firpo’s absence, with Pascal Struijk deputising and Leif Davis exiting the club in the summer.

Firpo struggled during his first campaign in English football and he would have been looking to have a good pre-season before hitting the ground running this time around.

That has not happened, which makes things harder for him, but he will now be looking to show the qualities which prompted Tony Dorigo to call him ‘outstanding‘ in January.
