Marcelo Bielsa certainly kept the pathway open for the best under-23s on the club’s books. They had an important role to play with Bielsa preferring to use a smaller squad. And some received a handful of chances.

Gelhardt is already a fan favourite. And many supporters were imploring Bielsa to use him more during what proved to be the final weeks of his tenure.

Meanwhile, Crysencio Summerville and Charlie Cresswell had some chances earlier this season. Cresswell, in particular, looked really good when he was involved.

And when asked which under-23 players had stood out to him, Marsch suggested that those three has certainly caught his eye.

“I think if you count Joffy [Gelhardt] as the younger group then yeah, he’s been good,” he said, .

“I think Crysencio’s been good in the group, I think Charlie Cresswell comes every day and works really hard, but again I know those players, I know Joffy a little bit from watching the 23s games and first team matches but I need to get to know these young players more to understand what their qualities are and how they can continue to grow.”

Leeds fans are seriously excited to see how Marsch uses Gelhardt in particular

Marsch is surely likely to rely on the more senior members of the squad over the coming weeks. Leeds find themselves in trouble in the Premier League. And it looks imperative that they spark a turnaround in the near future.

But Gelhardt has shown that he has absolutely no fear. And he has certainly shown that he can make an impact in the Premier League.

In fact, many are hopeful that he will become a more prominent fixture in the coming weeks. So Marsch’s comments are extremely encouraging.

It is exciting that he already knew plenty about Gelhardt. That would hint that he will not be afraid to put his faith in the forward in the months ahead.
