Mark Schwarzer says West Ham have made the most exciting signing of the summer so far

West Ham United have enjoyed a remarkable summer on the transfer front, with eight top signings over the line.

The Hammers hit the ground running when the transfer window opened, wrapping up the signings of Luis Guilherme, Wes Foderingham and Max Kilman fairly early on.

Then, early in August, West Ham got three more signings done, as Crysencio Summerville, Niclas Fullkrug and Guido Rodriguez joined.

And over the past few days, the Hammers have since made two more quality signings, bringing Jean-Clair Todibo and Aaron Wan-Bissaka to the London Stadium.

Now, Premier League pundit Mark Schwarzer has claimed that West Ham have made the most exciting signing of the summer so far.

Mark Schwarzer excited by West Ham newcomer Niclas Fullkrug

Schwarzer has named Fullkrug as his pick for most exciting Premier League summer signing thus far.

The Australian icon has ranked the new Hammers striker above the likes of Riccardo Calafiori, Amadou Onana and Archie Gray.

“Niclas Fullkrug,” Schwarzer told the when asked who the most exciting summer signing has been so far.

“He’s over 30, but is a top-class player and fits the mould of a West Ham player.”

What will Fullkrug bring to West Ham?

West Ham certainly needed a new striker to ease the goalscoring burden on the likes of Antonio and Bowen, and Fullkrug is a great shout for the Hammers.

The 31-year-old shone for Dortmund in their run to the Champions League final and scored for Germany at Euro 2024, so clearly he has what it takes to shine at the highest level.

Dortmund sporting Sebastian Kehl sung Fullkrug’s praises when he joined the Bundesliga club.

“Niclas is a playmaking attacker, very strong with his head, physically impressive, convincing in one-on-one duels and unpleasant for his opponents [to face],” he told the .

“With all these skills, he embodies the profile we were looking for.”

Meanwhile, Germany legend Rudi Voller said of the West Ham newcomer: “His strike rate is exceptional. He can probably only be compared to Gerd Muller.”

. They are reportedly looking to make a ninth signing over the coming weeks, and he could cost as little as £17million.
