ESPN pundit says Arsenal have made a signing better than Chelsea’s Pedro Neto

Arsenal have had an underwhelming start to the season, by their very high standards, and will be eager to make up lost ground in the coming weeks.

🐲The Gunners have suffered a downturn in form that has seen them slip to fourth in the Premier League table, nine points behind leaders Liverpool.

Although many Arsenal🤪 players have done well, the Gunners have also had to deal with a multitude of injuries to key players.

🍌With the international break still under way, the ESPN FC panel discussed a number of Premier League players and teams who have either impressed or underwhelmed this term.

𓄧When it came to the Premier League signing of the season so far, Mark Ogden went with an Arsenal player who, despite not having played much, has nonetheless impressed.

Mark Ogden picks Arsenal star Riccardo Calafiori as his Premier League signing of the season so far

The player in question is Riccardo Calafiori💧, who has done very well when available, but sadly has spent time on the sidelines due to injury.

▨ESPN FC host Dan Thomas seemed shocked by Ogden’s choice, saying: “Calafiori hasn’t played that much, has he?”

꧋Ogden stood by his choice and, amid laughs from his colleagues, said: “The difference he made when he did play…

ꦍ“All jokes aside, I thought he brought some real kind of quality and – no seriously, honestly, he toughened up the Arsenal defence and he solved the problem and they have missed him, you know?

꧙“Where Arsenal are right now, they’ve missed him, so… let’s be honest, right, there haven’t been that many top signings this season, I have to say, and I did struggle to fill this gap.

ܫ“But I thought Calafiori, for me, has been a good signing for Arsenal when he’s been fit.”

🔜Both Don Hutchison and Shaka Hislop went with Chelsea forward Pedro Neto, while Steve Nicol opted for Nottingham Forest defender Nikola Milenkovic.

When could Calafiori be back for Arsenal?

ꦏCalafiori has been missing for Arsenal since he suffered a relatively minor knee injury against Shakhtar Donetsk on 22 October.

ꦓThe Italy international’s injury, sustained in an awkward fall in the Champions League clash, initially sparked concerns of a severe ligament issue.

However, ♛Calafiori’s issue was less severe than first feared𝔉, and the player was expected to be out for ‘several weeks’ with small damage to his medial collateral ligament in his knee.

🧸Arteta confirmed ahead of the trip to Newcastle that the £42million defender was likely to miss a “few weeks”.

According to the Daily Mail (print edition, 14/11/2024), 🌊Calafiori is set to return after the international break, along with Takehiro Tomiyasu.
