Mark Lawrenson worried for Marco Silva if Everton lose at Newcastle

BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson has admitted he would be “seriously worried” about Everton manager Marco Silva if his side suffer a defeat away to Newcastle United at the weekend.

The Toffees travel to St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon and will be hoping to pick up maximum points for a second away game on the road.

The Merseyside club currently sit 10th in the Premier League table and six points off seventh, while they managed to draw with rivals Liverpool 0-0 in their last game at Goodison Park.

Lawrenson has cranked up the pressure on Everton’s senior man Silva by stressing the important of the weekend’s fixture for him.

“I am not sure what the Magpies’ approach will be like this time but I think what happens in this game is far more significant for Everton manager Marco Silva,”

“After all their hard work last week, and the way they raised their game, if the Toffees went to St James’ Park and got run over, then I would be seriously worried.”

TBR’s View:

Silva is yet to really get on the same page with Everton fans during his first season in charge and that is why some are suggesting his time may be running out.

His team’s performance against Liverpool in the last game should be a great platform to build on and win at the weekend they could find themselves right back in the hunt for a European finish.

Silva is clearly still trying to piece the jigsaw together at Everton and they do really lack quality in the final third.

But he should be given time to continue implementing his methods or they will find themselves back at square one next season with a new manager.
