Mark Lawrenson thinks Newcastle United will beat Arsenal this weekend
Former Liverpool defender and regular BBC pundit, Mark Lawrenson, thinks Arsenal could be in for a shock this weekend when they face Newcastle United.
The Gunners enter the clash with Steve Bruce’s men off the back of a loss against Villarreal in midweek. It’s a result which leaves their Europa League final hopes hanging by a thread, and sums up Mikel Arteta’s side’s inconsistencies.

And Lawrenson, making his weekly predictions for this weekend, believes that inconsistency could open the door for Newcastle.
“Arsenal’s priority has to be the Europa League now, because it is the only way they are getting into Europe next season. The Gunners are extremely inconsistent at the best of times and I just have a feeling Newcastle will come out on top here,” Lawrenson .
“Part of that is down to the Magpies’ form – they have won two and drawn two of their past four games – but they also have their big guns back in attack and they have made a big difference.”
Arsenal have just the one win in their last four Premier League games. That came at bottom of the table Sheffield United, while they’ve lost at home to both Liverpool and Everton.
TBR View: Newcastle will fancy this, there’s nothing to lose
A few weeks ago this might have been a more high pressure environment for the Toon Army but they can go at this with little worry.
Their Premier League status has been secured once again and that means the pressure is off. Arsenal are not exactly the most demanding team to play against either.
Lawrenson might be right here, Newcastle could get themselves a victory.
