Mark Lawrenson says Conor Coady could fill Liverpool void left by Van Dijk

Liverpool legend, Mark Lawrenson, Conor Coady as a potential ‘ready-made’ replacement for long-term injury victim, Virgil van Dijk.

Coady has been instrumental in helping Wolves cement themselves as a Premier League contender for the European places in the last few seasons and has now been rewarded with England call-ups.

The Wolves skipper was a Liverpool player as a youngster but moveed on due to lack of first-team opportunities, after impressing on loan at the likes of Sheffield United.

But despite that, Lawrenson believes that Coady is as good as anyone in terms of being ready to step into the void left by Van Dijk.

“If Liverpool are going to pay big money for somebody in January, they want absolutely ready-made. Conor Coady has had loads of shouts and he is a very good organiser who has played lots of games in the Premier League”, Lawrenson told.

Coady has already scored for England following his debut recently and is being backed to cement himself in the back three for Gareth Southgate’s men ahead of a potential Euro 2021 spot next term.

Liverpool have moved Fabinho into the back to replace ‘VVD’ at the moment but are thought to be considering a number of options in the January transfer window.

Fairytale stuff if Coady returns to Anfield – TBR View

Conor Coady is one of the best defenders in the Premier League. Wolves’ defensive record speaks for itself and Coady has been at the heart of that.

A return to Liverpool would be a fairytale story and he’d obviously strengthen the ranks as well.

The problem the Reds have is Wolves wouldn’t want to sell Coady at all and if they did, the fee could be a huge one.
