Mark Lawrenson predicts Leeds vs Sheffield United result

Mark Lawrenson that he is expecting Leeds United to win 3-0 when they meet Sheffield United at Elland Road this weekend.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side have taken themselves to the brink of passing the 40 point mark. They moved one point short by beating Fulham 2-1 in their final game before the international break.

The Blades meanwhile, have lost six of their last seven in all competitions. They were however, much better in their FA Cup tie with Chelsea last month.

Nevertheless, Lawrenson has backed Leeds to come out on top. And he suggested that he expects the Whites to win by a much greater margin than when they previously met.

“Sheffield United were extremely competitive in their last game, against Chelsea in the FA Cup sixth-round, but they still lost,” .

“That has been the story of the Blades’ season, really, and the only thing still in doubt is when their relegation will be confirmed.

“Leeds edged it 1-0 with an 86th-minute winner when these two sides met at Bramall Lane at the start of the season. I’m expecting them to find things a bit easier this time.”

Of course, the game pits Bielsa against his predecessor at Elland Road. Paul Heckingbottom enjoyed a brief spell at Leeds before leaving as the Whites looked to appoint the Argentinian.

He would surely love nothing more than to get a positive result against Leeds. Admittedly, the situation is looking incredibly bleak at Bramall Lane this season.

But Heckingbottom may want to stake a claim to get the Sheffield United job on a permanent basis while also helping the side take any momentum they can into next season.

Leeds however, will be willing to do them no favours. They can move themselves into the top-half of the table with a victory.

And Lawrenson believes that that is exactly what they will do.
