Mark Lawrenson offers thoughts on Marco Silva’s Everton situation
Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson has had his say on their bitter Merseyside rivals Everton as the Toffees prepare to host reigning Premier League champions Manchester City.
, Lawrenson said that he cannot really see the direction Marco Silva is trying to take the Goodison Park club, although whether the views of a former Red are of any interest to Everton fans may be up for debate.
He : “The natives will be restless after seeing Everton beaten at Goodison Park by Sheffield United last week, and Manchester City will obviously offer an even tougher test. If they end up losing heavily, then Marco Silva is going to get some grief.
“Silva’s problem is that his side are neat and tidy and play some decent stuff on their day, but they do not seem able to put teams away. I look at Everton and wonder exactly what they are trying to do, and I think most of their supporters feel the same way.”

TBR’s View – Former Red Lawrenson overstating the situation across town
Everton lost two Premier League games in a row which did put a bit of a pin in the growing optimism at Goodison, but Silva is trying to build a hungry, expansive, young side capable of gatecrashing the top six.
They can absolutely do that – look at the contenders for the top six, apart from Liverpool and Manchester City, and they’ve all got two straight losses in them.
Everton need to get back to that strong home form. Getting something off City would be a huge bonus but their season isn’t defined by games like that. It was a good win in midweek and the talk about Silva is premature.
