Mark Lawrenson names the manager he thinks is a ‘perfect fit’ for West Brom
West Bromwich Albion are currently on the lookout for a new manager as Sam Allardyce prepares for his final game in charge of the Baggies.
The 66-year-old joined West Brom last December, penning an 18-month contract containing a break clause in the event of relegation.
With the Baggies losing their Premier League battle, the club , but he hasn’t accepted as he can’t commit to the project at this stage of his career.
Former Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has been linked with the West Brom hotseat and, according to , has already been approached by the club.
The 53-year-old took his boyhood club from League One to the Premier League, steering the Blades to a top-half finish in 2019-20, and is a free agent after leaving Bramall Lane in March.
pundit Mark Lawrenson, looking ahead to West Brom’s Premier League finale away at Leeds United, thinks Wilder is the ideal candidate for The Hawthorns.
“I’m not surprised former Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder is being linked with the West Brom job now Sam Allardyce has said he is leaving,” he said.
“Wilder is available, he knows the Championship and he knows how to get teams promoted. It seems like the perfect fit to me.”

Wilder’s time at Bramall Lane may have ended on a low note but he’ll always be remembered by the fans as a great coach who took his boyhood club from the third tier to the top flight and had them punching above their weight for a season.
As a free agent, he won’t set West Brom back any compensation, and he obviously knows how to navigate the treacherous waters of the Championship, so he’s certainly a great shout for the Baggies as they look to make an instant return to the Premier League.
