Mark Lawrenson makes suggestion about Duncan Ferguson ahead of Everton v Burnley

Everton host Burnley on Boxing Day in the Premier League and it will be the first game in charge for new Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti.

The Merseyside club currently sit 15th in the Premier League table, but have appointed a high-profile boss that has been at the elite level for a long time and will be highly ambitious.

Toffees legend Duncan Ferguson stepped up from the coaching staff as caretaker boss for four games in all competitions and he proved his credentials as a potential future manager with the way he galvanised things at Goodison Park.

BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson has made the suggestion that Ferguson should get the last word in the dressing room ahead of the fixture against Burnley.

“If this game was at Turf Moor, it would be even more difficult but Goodison Park will be rocking and I am sure we will see a reaction from the Everton players too,”

“It probably would not be a bad idea if Ancelotti gave Duncan Ferguson the last word in the dressing room before the team runs out. He would make sure they were fired up and knew exactly what was expected of them.”

TBR’s View:

Ancelotti has had just a matter of days to try make his stamp on the Everton group and it may not be a bad idea to keep Ferguson at the forefront of ideas for now.

The Scot clearly has a good rapport with the players and he looks like a brilliant motivator that is passionate about the club.

He’s returned to the coaching staff to work under Ancelotti, but he could definitely still have a big role to have around the squad if the new manager opts to utilise him.
