Mark Lawrenson has a managerial suggestion for Tottenham, Euro 2020 gaffer yet to be mentioned
that he cannot understand why Tottenham Hotspur have not yet considered Italy gaffer Roberto Mancini. The ex-Manchester City manager is shining as manager of his country. Lawrenson thinks Mancini would be ideal for Tottenham, this summer.
Mancini, 56, has guided Italy into the knockout rounds with three wins from three against Wales, Switzerland and Turkey. The Azzurri have now gone 30 games unbeaten under Mancini, a record that has been in place since 1939. A win in the last 16, and Mancini will set a new record.
It is far from surprising if judged on his glittering CV. Two spells and three Serie A titles at Inter, a Premier League and an FA Cup at Manchester City – his Italy tenure is just another successful feather in his cap. Lawrenson think it is “strange” that Spurs have not considered Mancini this summer.
“The other thing about Mancini is why isn’t he being mentioned for the Tottenham job,” Lawrenson said. “He’s the only manager I know who’s not had a mention. Why hasn’t he been mentioned? He’s doing a fabulous job. He’s managed in the Premier League, so that’s a little bit of strange one.”

On paper, Mancini would be an incredible appointment. Premier League success, in the peak of his managerial career, he would be perfect. But he is hardly going to leave Italy. Firstly, Spurs will want a manager before Euro 2020 ends. Mancini is not going to leave until Italy the tournament ends.
Judging by the tournament so far, Italy are contenders to win. Even then, the World Cup is only next summer and he has a contract until 2024 – . However, a big-money offer might tempt Mancini, given that say he earns just £49,000 a week.
