Mark Lawrenson explains Manuel Pellegrini frustration at West Ham

Mark Lawrenson feels that Manuel Pellegrini has had a decent first year in charge of West Ham, but expects him to be frustrated by the inconsistency in their performances.

The Hammers sit 11th in the Premier League table and know that a win away to Watford on the final day will lift them into the top half.

They haven’t quite been able to keep pace with the race for European football and have dropped points with some poor displays at times.

But on the flip side West Ham have shown they can compete with the best when they are on top of their game and there is potential moving into next year.

BBC pundit Lawrenson does feel that manager Pellegrini will be frustrated over the sporadic form.

“West Ham, who are looking to sign off with a third successive win, have been much improved of late but they have plenty of blips over the course of the past nine months,”

“Every time I think they are going to kick on, they have gone missing – which must be frustrating for their manager Manuel Pellegrini – but overall they have also had a decent season.”

TBR’s View:

West Ham have the ammunition to become the best of the rest outside of the top six and they do have the right man at the helm in the shape of highly-rated manager Pellegrini.

They have an exciting group of players that look strong when they are all fit, with perhaps only a couple of areas that need strengthening over the summer.

The Hammers have to be planning an assault on European football next year and to be overtaken by Wolverhampton Wanderers this season shows they have plenty of work to do.
