Mark Lawrenson claims Everton will target Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian
Mark Lawrenson believes that Liverpool’s goalkeeper Adrian could come under pressure in the Merseyside derby on Wednesday night.
The Reds host bitter rivals Everton at Anfield in the Premier League, but will be without their number one Alisson Becker following his red card at the weekend in the win over Brighton.
Jurgen Klopp fortunately does have cover in net and it will fall on Alisson’s understudy to fill in.
Adrian has already proved himself in the first-team this season and played in 12 senior games.
The 32-year-old shot-stopper was for the most part a reliable player in the Liverpool backline and is a great back-up option to have.
BBC pundit Lawrenson suggests that he’s shaky when dealing with crosses into the box and feels it’s something Everton will look at.
“One worry for Reds fans here is that Alisson is suspended so Adrian will fill in in goal,”
“I think Everton will be very direct and looking to test Adrian from corners and free-kicks, because at set-pieces I think he looks vulnerable.
“I still expect Liverpool to win, but I am not expecting it to be easy for them.”
TBR’s View:
Despite not having Alisson in goal in midweek, Liverpool are still big favourites to beat rivals Everton and will pick up another three points if they play near their best.
The Reds have won 13 out of 14 league games so far to sit top of the table, with a draw against Manchester United the only time they have slipped up.
Adrian tasted defeat in a Champions League group stage match against Napoli, but aside from that has won 11 of the 12 games he has featured in.
He may not quite command his goal like Alisson, but has brilliant reflexes and has proven he won’t let Klopp down.
