Mark Lawrenson backs West Ham to overcome Leicester

Mark Lawrenson believes that West Ham were unlucky in the recent defeat and expects them to beat Leicester City at the weekend in the Premier League.

The Hammers have lost their last three consecutive league fixtures, with the last one coming 2-1 away to Manchester United.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side ultimately ended up pointless once again, but were extremely unfortunate to lose after an eye-catching display at Old Trafford.

West Ham host Leicester on Saturday in the league, as 11th in the table meets seventh.

BBC pundit has predicted that the London club will have enough quality to win at home against a Leicester outfit that have won four of their last five games to help chase down a European spot.

“West Ham will be far more open, which will suit Leicester, but if the Hammers play like they did against Manchester United last time out, I think they will come out on top,”

“The Hammers suffered their third straight defeat at Old Trafford on Saturday, but I think they were a bit unlucky.

“Their manager Manuel Pellegrini will just be hoping his team can finally find some consistency, because we know what quality they have.”

TBR’s View:

There isn’t a great deal to split West Ham and Leicester, with the Foxes just five points clear in the table.

Both teams are stacked with real quality in their squads and like all teams outside the top six it’s just about consistency.

Pellegrini could do with a strong finish to the season at the London Stadium to really get West Ham fans on his side and prove that his first year at the club can act as a platform to future success.

The Hammers were definitely unlucky to lose against Manchester United, but need to try put in a similar type of display against Leicester in front of their own fans.
