that defender Joe Worrall will definitely return to Championship side Nottingham Forest, rather than signing a permanent deal at Ibrox.
Worrall, 22, joined Rangers on loan from Forest last summer and has since played 31 times in all competitions for Steven Gerrard’s side. But he has developed a reputation of being prone to the odd big error.
Normally rather consistent and solid, Worrall has been described as a “bombscare” in recent weeks. He has since been dropped by Gerrard for Nikola Katic, and the stats have significantly improved.
Rangers have won six on the bounce in the league, conceding just one goal. Worrall only played in one of those, the first win that started the run – a 3-0 victory over Hearts. Allen gave an update on the defender’s future.

“There’s no secret to the fact Joe Worrall will go back and return to Nottingham Forest,”
“So obviously, there’s a focus on making sure we are robust back there and I think generally we’re looking at where we think we can strengthen.”
TBR’s view
Worrall has been good, but he is not good enough to take Rangers to the next level. His departure, along with Gareth McAuley’s likely exit given his contract expires soon, means Rangers must bring in new centre-backs.
Gerrard has been left with just Katic and Connor Goldson, and he needs reinforcements to cover the impressive duo. A move for Edson Mexer failed to be completed, despite Gerrard going to Rennes to meet the African star.
Other players have been linked, but Gerrard and Allen need to start working on a new centre-back with the transfer window now open. Worrall’s loan finishes after Rangers face Kilmarnock in their last game on Sunday.
