Marcus Gayle explains what he has told reported Rangers target about Ibrox
that he has shared a joke with reported Rangers and Celtic target Joe Aribo, after the Charlton Athletic midfielder worked under Gayle at Staines Town.
The 22-year-old has shone for Charlton this season, helping them win the League One play-offs with a victory in the final over Sunderland. He has scored 10 goals from midfield in 39 outings.
His contract under Lee Bowyer at the Valley expires at the end of the month and although Charlton are keen to keep him, it looks likely that Aribo could be on the move – with both Old Firm sides keen,
reported claims that Rangers are leading the race to sign Aribo after holding talks with the player, and ex-Ibrox striker Gayle claims he has shared a joke with the midfielder about Ibrox.

“I had a joke with him and said that when he was playing for me there were only 200 fans there, and now he could be playing in front of 50,000 fans. He is equipped to do that, that wouldn’t faze him one bit,”
“Personally, I would like to see him play for Rangers. I think he would learn so much from Steven Gerrard and the players that he is looking to bring in. That would really give him a platform to push on again and get even better.”
TBR’s view
Rangers have been crying out for a goalscoring midfielder from deep for some time, with Ovie Ejaria the last player able to do so. Scott Arfield is more of a number 10, or a winger.
Indeed, Ryan Jack, Ross McCrorie, Glen Kamara and Steven Davis are not known for their goalscoring, but adding a player like Aribo into the mix will give Rangers a goal threat from deep.
On a free transfer, Aribo would be an excellent signing for either Rangers or Celtic.
