Marcos Rojo considering Manchester United future; Everton should swoop
Manchester United centre half Marcos Rojo is reportedly weighing up his options ahead of next season, having become aware that he may be competing with as many as five other central defenders at Old Trafford next term, with Jose Mourinho targeting another centre-back this summer .
The Argentine international signed a contract extension in March, but is now fearing that his decision may be premature, as he is already competing with Chris Smalling, Victor Lindelof, Phil Jones and Eric Bailly, with another addition expected soon.
that Mourinho’s consistent talks with Tottenham’s star defender Toby Alderweireld have Rojo fearing for his game-time with the Red Devils, knowing his arrival would likely force him further down the pecking order.
Everton are openly in the market for a marquee centre-half this summer, with Victor Lindelof high on the list, . But Marco Silva should turn his attention to Rojo while the 28-year-old is undecided on his long-term future.
Phil Jagielka and Ashley Williams underwhelmed last season along-side former Red Devil Michael Keane, and Silva is keen to begin phasing out ageing members of the team, as aims to build a team capable of pushing for European football in the near future.
Rojo emerged as one of the finest defenders in the Premier League in 2016/17 along-side Eric Bailly, using his physicality and front foot defending to dominate attacking counterparts, but a re-occurring knee problem has limited him to just 13 appearances this season.
Rojo is currently away with the Argentina national team preparing for this summer’s World Cup in Russia. While he will no doubt be fully focused on bringing the trophy back to an expectant nation, the platform on which he’s playing could offer the opportunity to impress any potential suitors, including Everton.
