Yet just three days later, Marco Silva engineered an instant turnaround and led his side to a morale-boosting 5-1 win over lowly Burnley.
The Everton manager deserves massive credit for revitalising his players and returning the Toffees to winning ways.
The nature of the Spurs loss was so deflating that many clubs would have found it difficult to pick themselves up in a matter of days and produce a high-quality performance.

Yet Everton started superbly on Boxing Day, with Yerry Mina scoring within the opening five minutes after a lovely cross from Bernard.
Both players were on the bench against Spurs, yet returned to action versus the Clarets — illustrating an astute lineup change from Silva.
Everton eventually romped to a 5-1 victory, a four goal margin of victory that essentially erased Sunday’s 6-2 loss.
From the low point of a Goodison Park thrashing to the high of an away masterclass, Everton manager Marco Silva laudably conjured up an excellent response from his players in the shortest of time spans.
