Marcelo Bielsa remains totally committed to Leeds United with new contract close to being signed
According to , Leeds United expect Marcelo Bielsa to sign a new contract to stay at Elland Road for a fourth season with the Argentine totally committed to the club.
Bielsa’s future in England has been a concern for supporters with his current one-year deal set to expire at the end of the season, but there is belief in West Yorkshire that he is on the verge of putting pen to paper to new terms.
Senior sources at the Whites are quoted as describing the situation as ‘completely relaxed’ and having ‘no concerns’ that Bielsa could walk away, with the head coach in constant communication with owner Andrea Radrizzani and already has plans in place for next year.
Bielsa is also understood to be happy and settled at Leeds, and believes there is still plenty of scope to improve the United squad that currently sits table during the club’s first season back in the top-flight .
Those improvements include a change in target with Bielsa now set on establishing Leeds as a top-10 side before going on to challenge for European qualification, having achieved the first and second objectives of securing promotion and avoiding an immediate relegation.
The 65-year-old notably left it until the days leading up to Leeds’ first game of the season to sign his current contract, and there is a sense that he would have already informed Radrizzani or Director of Football Victor Orta if he planned on leaving.
A new contract is yet to be signed, but the Leeds hierarchy are confident there will not be any late hurdles in agreeing terms when Bielsa is presented with an offer following the final game of the campaign at home to West Bromwich Albion on May 23.
TBR’s view:
There is no questioning the success in the work that Bielsa has carried out at Leeds since first arriving in England in 2018, and his United side have taken the Premier League by storm through its high-energy and attacking style that has proven unbeatable for some of the best.
Tottenham Hotspur were when beaten 3-1 at Elland Road last weekend, while Manchester City were held to a point before losing the reverse fixture to a 10-man side and draws were achieved with Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United.
Bielsa is also admired by some of the best with Pep Guardiola left ‘overwhelmed’ () when praised by the Leeds head coach, given the respect the Citizens boss has for the Argentine who United would no doubt struggle to replace if new terms were not possible.
