Marcelo Bielsa offers insight into Leeds’s current January plans

Marcelo Bielsa has suggested that Leeds United will look to sign at least one player in January should Eddie Nketiah be recalled by Arsenal, .

Leeds have already lost one player in their squad ahead of the January window, with Jack Clarke’s loan from Tottenham Hotspur being cut short.

And there are question marks surrounding Nketiah’s future. The Arsenal loanee made his first league start for the Whites on Sunday and has struggled for game-time due to the form of Patrick Bamford.

Bielsa admitted that he is not sure whether Nketiah will remain at Elland Road beyond January. And he suggested that he may be forced into changing his plans having previously expected to do nothing next month.

“We analyse this week to week. We need to know what is going to happen with Eddie. We have to think about another player instead of Jack Clarke and we have to analyse those two decisions,” he said, .

“If both of them continue with us, we weren’t going to incorporate another one. Now that Clarke is not with us we must think if it’s necessary to replace him and in the case Eddie doesn’t continue with us, we have to think in one more incorporation for sure. And after analyse the other one.”

Leeds certainly appear to need another striker if Nketiah goes. The likes of Tyler Roberts and Ryan Edmondson could do a job leading the line. But it would be a big gamble to leave Bamford as the only senior forward in the squad.

Losing Clarke does look to be less of a blow. The winger was rarely seen following his return to Leeds. But signing a new striker looks to be a must if Nketiah is recalled.

It may be difficult to get another signing in given the role that Nketiah has played. But Leeds would be taking a huge risk if they do not sign a replacement.
