Marcelo Bielsa hails Victor Orta for identifying matchwinner Raphinha

Leeds United got back to winning ways in the Premier League this weekend, securing a 1-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park.

In a fast-paced encounter, Leeds claimed the win after a drilled effort from outside of the box from Raphinha found its way past both Ben Godfrey and Jordan Pickford.

On the balance of play, Leeds will feel they deserved the win as Everton’s inconsistent campaign continued.

The Brazilian winger certainly outshone his opposing countryman Richarlison and after the game, Marcelo Bielsa was full of praise for the 23-year-old.

But the Argentine also had some praise for his director of football, Victor Orta, for bringing him to West Yorkshire.

“Raphinha has adapted very quickly to the Premier League,” Bielsa is “Victor (Orta) anticipated he had the characteristics to play in the Premier League. He was correct in choosing him.

“It was a victory which was very difficult to achieve. I think we played well.”

The deal to sign Raphinha from Stade Rennais came quite out of the blue.

Leeds appeared happy with their wide areas, with Jack Harrison, Helder Costa, Ian Poveda, Stuart Dallas, and Gjanni Alioski all options on the flanks.

However, despite a clear pursuit of a central midfielder, Leeds swooped for Raphinha after a deal for Bayern Munich talent Michael Cuisance fell through.

Leeds spent afigure in the region of £17 million for the wideman which based on his early displays is looking like a bargain in today’s market.

After this performance, it is no wonder Marcelo Bielsa is thankful for his sporting director bringing Raphinha his way.
