Marc Rieper suggests 50-year-old manager for Celtic job
Marc Rieper has suggested currently out-of-work manager Slaven Bilic for the permanent Celtic job come the summer,
Bilic, 50, is yet to find work since being sacked by West Ham United during the early stages of the 2017-18 season. He was replaced by David Moyes, who has since made way for Manuel Pellegrini.
The former Croatia and Besiktas manager joined West Ham in the summer of 2016, after playing alongside Rieper at West Ham as a player during the 1996-97 campaign.
Still thought of fondly by Hammers fans after a seventh-placed finish in 2016-17, former Hammers and Celtic star Rieper reckons Bilic would be perfect for the Scottish champions – and claimed that he is spoken to Bilic.
“I’ve spoken to him before about Celtic being a massive club and he’s really aware of that. I think he’d fit the bill there,” “Slaven would fit in at any club in Europe, I think he’s a good manager and he’s a nice person.
“I think he plays a style of football that would suit Celtic really well. He’s been good in the transfer market, getting good players in for fair money and speaks several languages. He’s a very nice and educated man.”
TBR’s view
Bilic is renowned for possession-based, attacking football and that would suit Celtic to a tee. His knowledge of Croatian and Eastern European football would allow the Hoops to bring in new, unknown players.
The only issue is his wages. was earning an enormous £65,000 a week at West Ham. He would have take an enormous pay cut to work with the Hoops, perhaps even less than half.
A top appointment, but wages are a problem.
