Marc Overmars admits reported Leeds target Nicolas Tagliafico could leave Ajax

Leeds United have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Ajax defender Nicolas Tagliafico, with Marc Overmars conceding the full-back is ‘open’ to leaving the club.

The Argentinian is being linked with a move to Leeds. The claimed a week or so ago that Ajax were willing to sell Tagliafico for around £13m. Manchester City are also said to have kept an eye on the defender’s situation.

And speaking this week, Ajax director and former Premier League star Overmars admitted that Tagliafico could go, along with David Neres.

“A departure for Nicolás Tagliafico and David Neres would make sense. It is no secret that they are open to a transfer,” Overmars . ()

“Just as it is generally known that outgoing transfers are an important part of our income. But, at the same time, it cannot be predicted. Will the ideal club for those players come to pass? And what does it look like financially, for them and for us?”

Tagliafico, 28, fits the mold perfectly in terms of players Leeds could look to sign. A natural left-back who likes to get forward, the Argentinian would slot in nicely into Marcelo Bielsa’s system.

Further, with doubts over the future of Gjanni Alioski, signing Tagliafico would make sense for the Elland Road outfit.

TBR View: £13m a bargain for such a player, Leeds have to swoop

In terms of bargains, Tagliafico would certainly represent one at just £13m. That is a snip for a player of his calibre, given he has 27 caps for Argentina and fits Leeds’ style perfectly.

He loves bombing forward – he’s scored 12 goals in the last two seasons, with 19 overall for Ajax – making him perfect for Bielsa.
