Title-winning defender shares clear response to Newcastle United transfer interest amid Marc Guehi rumours

Newcastle United are in the market for a new centre back but one Bundesliga defender seemingly isn’t heading to St James’ Park this week.

The Magpies take on Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon as Eddie Howe chases another victory.

Newcastle beat Southampton 1-0 last weekend but it wasn’t all good news as Fabian Schar picked up a straight red card.

Howe is already without two centre backs in the injured Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman, so the last thing he needed was another centre back absentee.

Newcastle’s top centre back target is Marc Guehi but Crystal Palace have been reluctant to let the England international leave so far.

Bayer Leverkusen star on Newcastle United move

Newcastle have started looking at potential alternatives and reports suggest that Chelsea’s Axel Disasi is on the radar.

The Bundesliga market is appealing too though and Newcastle have targeted Edmond Tapsoba of Bayer Leverkusen.

Talks have been held over a potential move for Tapsoba as Newcastle look to raid the Bundesliga champions.

Tapsoba played the full 90 minutes on Friday night as Leverkusen beat Borussia Monchengladbach 3-2 to open their Bundesliga campaign.

The Burkina Faso international commented on his future too – and Newcastle may need to move on to other targets.

Speaking to ESPN’s Archie Rhind-Tutt after the final whistle, Tapsoba played down the speculation and committed his immediate future to Leverkusen.

“Yes, I’m fully focused on Leverkusen,” said Tapsoba when asked if he is staying. “This season, we will fight for everything and I’m fully focused on Leverkusen,” he added.

Other options for Newcastle

Tapsoba – – would have been an exciting addition for Newcastle but it sounds like he isn’t expecting a late transfer.

Newcastle may have to focus elsewhere now with Chelsea’s Disasi one of the key names.

Magpies sporting director Paul Mitchell knows Disasi well from their time together at Monaco and a reunion may make sense.

TBR Football understands that Chelsea will allow Disasi to leave this week as the Blues continue to wheel and deal.

Disasi hasn’t exactly dazzled in the Premier League though with Newcastle fans no doubt having Guehi and Tapsoba in mind as their new centre back.

Chelsea teammate Trevoh Chalobah is also on Newcastle’s radar with the Magpies now running out of time to land a new defender.
